It’s Ok To Cry

It's Ok To Cry is an exploration of the aftermath of what are considered to be major life events. The death of a parent, an ending relationship, a sexual encounter, all moments that shape and define a person's lived experience. The title, a reference to the song by SOPHIE, acknowledges the pain that comes from existence, allowing a sense of vulnerability to be felt at a time in which pain and uncertainty are overwhelmingly present. Looking beyond direct representation, and searching for meaning in the unknown, the work exists as an examination of what it means to be alone. The contemplative act of photography serves as an outlet for expression. By navigating emotions through making, the work speaks to a need to photograph in order to keep going.
